The NBA has scrapped the Atlanta Hawks’ plan to host a March 16 tribute night honoring Magic City, the Atlanta strip club known for its lemon pepper wings and deep ties to local culture.
League officials said the decision came after “concerns” were raised from numerous voices around the NBA. The Hawks had announced the event last month, billing it as a salute to an “iconic cultural institution” that would feature Magic City–style food, music and limited-edition merchandise during a home game against the Orlando Magic.
San Antonio Spurs forward Luke Kornet publicly urged the team and league to reconsider, adding to the pushback that ultimately reached the NBA office.
No alternative promotion has been announced for the March 16 matchup at State Farm Arena.
