An MRI has confirmed that Orlando Magic point guard Jalen Suggs suffered a left hip contusion, the team said Monday.

Suggs was hurt in the third quarter of the Magic’s 132-120 NBA Cup semifinal defeat to the New York Knicks on Saturday. He managed fewer than two minutes in the fourth quarter and finished with 26 points, 25 of them coming before halftime.

The diagnosis is considered positive because no more serious damage was found. Suggs, a key two-way contributor and locker-room leader, has appeared in 21 games this season and is averaging 15.4 points, 4.8 assists and 3.7 rebounds.

Injuries have been a recurring issue for the third-year guard, who played only 35 games last season and underwent arthroscopic surgery in March to remove a cartilage fragment from his left knee.

Orlando is already dealing with health concerns to several core players. Forward Franz Wagner remains sidelined by a high left ankle sprain suffered on Dec. 7, and reigning Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero recently missed 10 games with a left groin injury.
