New York Knicks head coach Mike Brown rolled out an oversized starting five on Thursday, Oct. 2, in his first game at the helm, compensating for OG Anunoby’s injury with an unexpected replacement in the opening lineup.

Anunoby, projected to begin the season as the team’s starting forward, was unavailable because of an undisclosed injury. Brown responded by promoting a surprise player into the first unit, giving the Knicks additional height and interior presence to start the game.

The reshuffled lineup marked Brown’s initial personnel move since taking over in New York, signaling his willingness to experiment early in the 2025–26 campaign. The Knicks did not announce a timetable for Anunoby’s return.
