CHICAGO — Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd was thrown out of Saturday night’s road game in Chicago after a brief but heated exchange with veteran referee Scott Foster.
The ejection came with 5:44 remaining in the first quarter. Kidd grew frustrated when officials denied his attempt to challenge a goaltending call against Max Christie. Although Dallas immediately called a timeout to initiate a coach’s challenge, it was ruled that the request was made too late.
Kidd continued to argue the decision, prompting Foster to assess two technical fouls and remove the coach from the game.
Assistant coach Frank Vogel handled the Mavericks’ bench duties for the rest of the contest.
