NEW YORK — The NBA has levied a $35,000 fine against Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd for publicly criticizing officials and using profanity during his postgame media availability, the league announced Monday.
The discipline stems from remarks Kidd made after the Mavericks fell 111-107 to the Houston Rockets on Saturday night. “The referees did not do their job tonight,” Kidd said. “They were terrible.”
Kidd’s frustration centered on the late-game officiating involving rookie forward Cooper Flagg, who scored 34 points but did not draw a foul on a missed layup that could have tied the contest. “I saw a foul,” Kidd said, citing officials Sean Wright, Simone Jelks and Jason Goldenberg by name. “The referees were unacceptable. It’s a foul, and he needs to be at the free throw line.”
The fine addresses both Kidd’s criticism and the profane language he used during the session. The league routinely cites its guidelines prohibiting public attacks on officiating crews when assessing such penalties.
