The incident occurred on March 8, 2026, at Madison Square Garden. Smart crashed into the crew area situated courtside, where Maher was seated as a guest. Arena medical personnel quickly attended to Maher before escorting him to the locker-room area for further evaluation. Details regarding the extent of Maher’s injury were not immediately released.
Smart returned to the floor after the collision and finished the game. No other members of the ESPN crew were reported hurt.
