Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner has been diagnosed with a high sprain of his left ankle after undergoing an MRI on Monday, the team announced.
Wagner was hurt in the first quarter of Orlando’s 106-100 loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday when his left leg bent awkwardly following a hard foul. He initially clutched the area around his knee, raising concerns about a more serious injury.
According to team officials, the imaging revealed no structural damage. His return timeline will depend on how the ankle responds to treatment, though league sources told ESPN that similar injuries typically require two to four weeks of recovery.
The 22-year-old will miss Tuesday’s NBA Cup quarterfinal against the Miami Heat. Before the injury, Wagner was averaging 23.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and shooting 35.4% from three-point range, serving as Orlando’s most consistent performer. His production helped the Magic post a 7-3 record while forward Paolo Banchero sat out with a groin strain; Banchero returned to action last Friday.
