Orlando Magic forward/center Moritz Wagner has been cleared to play in Sunday’s matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans, the team announced Saturday, marking his expected return from last season’s ACL tear.
Wagner, 27, sustained the injury in December after emerging as a contender for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award. Before going down, he was averaging a career-high 12.9 points per game on 56.2% shooting from the field.
The Magic retained the 6-foot-10 German on a one-year, $5 million contract over the summer. He will again share the court with his younger brother, franchise cornerstone Franz Wagner.
Selected 25th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2018 draft, Moritz Wagner played for three teams in his first three seasons. He was waived late in 2020-21 and promptly claimed by Orlando, where he has averaged 10.2 points across 158 appearances.
Tipoff at the Kia Center is set for 6 p.m. ET.
