ATLANTA — Orlando Magic guard Desmond Bane was thrown out midway through the third quarter of Tuesday’s 127-112 defeat to the Atlanta Hawks after a flagrant foul and subsequent technical on center Onyeka Okongwu.
With 5:24 left in the period, Okongwu caught a long outlet pass and headed for a layup. Bane grabbed Okongwu’s forearm on the ascent, sending the Hawks big man hard to the floor. As the ball bounced upward, Bane fired it back at Okongwu.
Officials reviewed the sequence and issued a flagrant 1 for the hard contact and a technical foul for hurling the ball, leading to an automatic ejection. Bane protested the decision before leaving the court.
Orlando trailed by 14 at the time of the incident and never recovered. Bane exited with nine points, four personal fouls and 22 minutes played.
The 27-year-old guard arrived in Orlando in a blockbuster offseason trade with the Memphis Grizzlies but has struggled early in his new role.
