Lakers guard Luka Doncic will travel to Europe for specialized care on his Grade 2 left hamstring strain, agent Bill Duffy of WME Basketball told ESPN’s Shams Charania and Dave McMenamin on Sunday.
Doncic suffered the injury during the third quarter of Los Angeles’ 139-96 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday. An MRI performed Friday in Dallas confirmed the strain, and team physicians ruled him out for the final five games of the regular season.
The Lakers did not set a firm timetable for his return, but Grade 2 hamstring strains generally require about four weeks of recovery. The first round of the NBA playoffs opens April 18.
Los Angeles also announced Saturday that guard Austin Reaves sustained a Grade 2 left oblique injury and will miss the rest of the regular season. Sources told ESPN Reaves is expected to be sidelined four to six weeks.
In his first full season with the Lakers, the eight-year veteran Doncic led the NBA with 33.5 points per game while adding 8.3 assists, 7.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals across 64 appearances.
The Lakers (50-28) occupy the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference and have already clinched a playoff berth. Following Sunday’s 134-128 road loss to the Dallas Mavericks, their remaining schedule features home games against the Thunder, Suns and Jazz, plus a visit to the Golden State Warriors.
