The NBA on Tuesday levied a $50,000 fine against Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic for what the league called an “inappropriate and unprofessional gesture” toward an official during Sunday’s 110-97 victory over the New York Knicks at Crypto.com Arena.
The incident occurred with 4:35 left in the third quarter. After attempting to draw a charge on Knicks forward Mohamed Diawara, Doncic was instead called for a blocking foul. Still on the court following the collision, he rubbed his fingers together in a “money” gesture while staring at referee Tre Maddox.
According to the league, Doncic has now accumulated 15 technical fouls in 52 games this season. One more would trigger an automatic one-game suspension under NBA rules.
