The Los Angeles Lakers have removed Joey Buss and Jesse Buss from their positions in the organization shortly after the franchise was sold for a record-setting $10 billion.

The decision became public on November 20, 2025. Joey and Jesse, sons of the late longtime owner Jerry Buss, had served in various front-office roles for years, including overseeing the team’s scouting and player development departments.

In brief statements released after their departures, the brothers suggested internal family tensions but did not provide specifics. No further details about the circumstances behind their dismissal were disclosed by the team.

The $10 billion transaction represents the highest price ever paid for a professional sports franchise. The Lakers have not yet announced plans for filling the positions previously held by the Buss brothers.
