OKLAHOMA CITY — Former Duke University and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kyle Singler was formally charged Tuesday with one misdemeanor count of assault and battery in the presence of a child, according to court records in Haskell County, Oklahoma.
Authorities arrested Singler last Thursday in Whitefield, about 130 miles east of Oklahoma City, after a 911 caller reported he was chasing a woman outside a residence. Jail documents show he was booked into the Haskell County jail and later released on $6,000 bail.
An arrest affidavit states Singler’s girlfriend told Deputy Mitch Dobbs that Singler grabbed her head and pushed her to the ground while their young child watched. Dobbs noted visible finger marks on the woman’s face and bruising on her arm. The deputy also wrote that Singler declined to make a statement and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics.
Court filings do not list an attorney for Singler. Jason Ranne, his former agent, said by email he no longer represents the ex-NBA player.
Basketball Career
Singler helped Duke win the 2010 NCAA championship and earned Most Outstanding Player honors at the Final Four. Selected 33rd overall in the 2011 NBA draft, he began his professional career overseas before joining the Detroit Pistons, making the NBA All-Rookie second team in 2013. He later spent parts of four seasons with the Thunder.
The arrest comes nearly a year after a cryptic Instagram post in which Singler wrote that he “feared for his life,” prompting concern from former teammates and fans.
