CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Rookie guard Kon Knueppel rewrote the Charlotte Hornets’ record book on Thursday night, drilling his 261st three-pointer of the season during a 127-107 victory over the Phoenix Suns.
Knueppel, 20, entered the game at Spectrum Center needing four triples to surpass the franchise mark of 260 set by Kemba Walker in 2018-19. After missing two open looks in the fourth quarter, he connected from the left wing off a Grant Williams assist, igniting a loud ovation from the home crowd.
The first-year standout finished 4-for-9 from long distance and scored 20 points. His milestone shot came with 5:18 remaining, giving Charlotte a 115-96 lead.
Phoenix also witnessed history on its side. Suns guard Collin Gillespie hit his 227th three of the campaign, eclipsing Quentin Richardson’s 2004-05 team record of 226.
The win moved Charlotte to 34-41, while Phoenix fell to 42-33.
