OKLAHOMA CITY — New York Knicks guard Miles McBride was activated Sunday for the first time since undergoing hernia surgery in February, head coach Mike Brown announced before the road matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Brown said the third-year guard will be on a minutes restriction in his first appearance since late January. McBride, 25, had started 14 of his 35 games this season, largely because of injuries in the Knicks’ backcourt.

Before the procedure, McBride was posting career highs with 12.9 points per game and a 42% mark from three-point range on nearly seven attempts a night. His season was already interrupted by a high ankle sprain in December that sidelined him for three weeks, after which he delivered some of his strongest play despite the team’s inconsistency.

New York went 20-8 during the guard’s 28-game absence, including a seven-game winning streak that ended Friday in Charlotte. Bench production has fluctuated, and Brown expects McBride to bolster on-ball defense and perimeter shooting once he is fully reintegrated.

The Knicks entered Sunday ranked ninth in made three-pointers and fourth in three-point percentage.
