SACRAMENTO — The Sacramento Kings have sidelined All-Star center Domantas Sabonis for their first two regular-season contests next week after he was diagnosed with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain, the club announced Saturday.
Sabonis exited a preseason loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night after feeling discomfort in the hamstring, then missed Friday’s preseason finale in Los Angeles while undergoing tests. Team doctors labeled the injury minor, but the 29-year-old will not be available for Wednesday’s opener in Phoenix or Friday’s home opener against Utah.
The earliest Sabonis could return is Sunday, Oct. 26, when Sacramento hosts the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Kings are already without fourth-year power forward Keegan Murray, who is expected to miss at least a month with a torn UCL in his left thumb. During the preseason, head coach Mike Brown has used second-year center Isaac Jones and veterans Dario Saric and Drew Eubanks to cover the frontcourt absences.
