Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 NBA season after undergoing separate surgical procedures on Wednesday, according to league sources.

The Sacramento Kings center had his left knee’s torn meniscus repaired, an injury first sustained in mid-November. Sabonis sat out 27 games while pursuing rehabilitation, then returned for eight contests before the All-Star break. With Sacramento holding the league’s worst record at 12-44 and riding a 14-game skid, the three-time All-Star opted for surgery to ensure full recovery ahead of next season.

LaVine, dealing with a tendon issue in his right hand, also chose a surgical solution. The veteran guard averaged 19.2 points across 39 appearances but missed five of the Kings’ last ten games before the break.

Contract situations for both players loom large. LaVine has a $48.9 million player option for 2026-27, and indications around the league suggest he will exercise it. Sabonis is signed through 2027, owed $94 million over the next two seasons.

Sacramento explored trade possibilities for the duo prior to the recent deadline but found no agreement. Newly appointed general manager Scott Perry is expected to revisit those conversations during the offseason.
