LOS ANGELES — Golden State head coach Steve Kerr was tossed and Stephen Curry fouled out during the Warriors’ 103-102 defeat to the LA Clippers on Monday night, a finish marked by a cascade of disputed calls.
Kerr picked up two technical fouls early in the fourth quarter. The sequence began with 8:44 remaining when Curry converted a floater that was later nullified; officials ruled the foul occurred on the floor, wiping away the basket. “I’ve never seen that,” Curry said afterward.
Moments later, John Collins blocked a Gary Payton II layup that replays showed had already hit the backboard. Crew chief Brian Forte acknowledged postgame that the play should have been ruled goaltending. The no-call triggered a Clippers fast break in which Curry was whistled for his fifth personal foul, prompting Kerr to storm onto the court. All three officials were confronted before Kerr was assessed two technicals and ejected.
Lead assistant Terry Stotts guided Golden State the rest of the way. “I’m up here because I’m saving Steve some money,” Stotts told reporters.
Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green said they welcomed their coach’s show of support, despite the extra point the Warriors surrendered because of the technicals. Inspired, the team trimmed a double-digit deficit to one, outscoring the Clippers by nine after Kerr’s exit. Curry hit two three-pointers in the final two minutes and finished with 27 points.
The rally stalled with 43 seconds left when Curry reached in on a rebound and collected his sixth foul — his first disqualification since 2021. Watching from the bench, he saw Butler miss a potential game-winner at the buzzer.
The setback dropped Golden State to 19-18. The Warriors, who have won six of their past nine, begin an eight-game homestand in San Francisco later this week.
