LAS VEGAS — Orlando Magic point guard Jalen Suggs will return to Florida on Sunday for medical imaging on his left hip, an injury that forced him out of Saturday’s NBA Cup semifinal against the New York Knicks at T-Mobile Arena.
The 23-year-old scored 25 points in a dynamic first half, matching Knicks star Jalen Brunson shot for shot. The night unraveled midway through the third quarter, when Knicks forward OG Anunoby stripped the ball from Suggs with 5:58 remaining. Suggs immediately grabbed his hip, yelled in pain and limped through several possessions before a timeout.
He briefly re-entered after the break but exited for good a few minutes later. In the locker room, Suggs needed help to stand and walk.
“I truly tried,” Suggs said. “There’s nowhere else I would have rather been than on the court battling with my guys, especially in a close game. But God has other plans.”
Head coach Jamahl Mosley did not provide a timetable, saying the club will wait for test results in Orlando.
Teammates concerned
Paolo Banchero noted that Suggs had been managing pain recently. “He’s been giving it his all for the team, so you hope it’s not too bad,” the forward said. Guard Desmond Bane added, “He wants to win more than anything … he laid it all on the line for us.”
Injury history
Now in his fifth NBA season, Suggs has missed at least 20 games in three of his first four years. He spent most of October recovering from knee surgery that cut short his 2024-25 campaign in January.
The Magic fell to the Knicks in Saturday’s semifinal, compounding a frustrating afternoon for Orlando.
