The Indiana Pacers announced Monday that second-year forward Johnny Furphy will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Furphy sustained the injury during the third quarter of Sunday’s 122-104 defeat in Toronto. According to the team, the Australian was evaluated at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, where an MRI confirmed the torn ACL. Indiana is in New York to face the Knicks on Tuesday.

The setback deepens an already lengthy injury list for Indiana. Two-time All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton has been sidelined since tearing his Achilles tendon in Game 7 of June’s NBA Finals and will also miss the season. Starters Andrew Nembhard and Aaron Nesmith, along with key reserves Obi Toppin and T.J. McConnell, have all missed time with various injuries.

The absences allowed Furphy, a 2024 second-round pick out of Kansas, to make 21 starts. He was averaging 5.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists when he went down.

Indiana, currently 13-40 and owning the NBA’s second-worst record, may soon be without another newcomer. Center Ivica Zubac, acquired last week from the LA Clippers, has not played since December because of an ankle injury. Head coach Rick Carlisle said the 7-footer will remain out until he is “really ready.”
