Veteran television director Howie Singer is leaving MSG Network after overseeing New York Knicks game broadcasts for 44 years.

The network confirmed the departure on April 11, saying Singer will step away later this month. His exit ends a tenure that spanned more than four decades behind the control-room cameras at Madison Square Garden.

“It’s going to be emotional,” Singer said of his final show, according to MSG. He added that the opportunity to chronicle the highs and lows of Knicks basketball for such a long period was “the honor of a lifetime.”

Singer first assumed directing duties in the early 1980s and has since guided thousands of live telecasts, including playoff runs, classic rivalry games and memorable moments at the Garden. Colleagues credit him with setting the technical and creative tone that helped define MSG’s NBA coverage.
