MIAMI — The Miami Heat expect All-Star guard Norman Powell to miss a minimum of one week after an MRI on Friday confirmed a Grade 1 strain of his right groin, the team announced.
Powell was injured during the first half of Thursday night’s loss at Philadelphia. The Heat listed his recovery timeline as “week to week.”
The 32-year-old is Miami’s top scorer this season, averaging 22.5 points. The Heat are 22-16 when he records at least 19 points and 9-13 when he falls short of that mark or does not play.
If he is out only seven days, Powell would sit four games: Saturday at home against Houston, Tuesday and Thursday at home against Brooklyn, and next Friday at Charlotte. Saturday’s meeting with the Rockets opens a stretch in which Miami plays seven of eight contests at Kaseya Center.
In his first season with the Heat, Powell leads the club in total field goals, three-pointers and free throws made.
