ATLANTA — Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young will not play against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday as the team manages his right knee, the club announced.
Young logged 20 minutes in Thursday’s 133-126 loss to the Charlotte Hornets, his first appearance after missing 22 games with a sprained right MCL. The two-time All-Star finished that contest with eight points and 10 assists.
The 27-year-old suffered the knee injury on Oct. 29 during a victory in Brooklyn and had been sidelined since. Friday’s matchup is the second night of a back-to-back set for Atlanta.
The Hawks will also remain without center Kristaps Porzingis, who is dealing with an illness. On Dec. 14 the team said Porzingis would be evaluated over a two-week period. The 30-year-old was diagnosed last season with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) while with the Boston Celtics and has missed nine of the past 11 games.
Atlanta enters Friday’s game at State Farm Arena with a 12-15 record.
