MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Grizzlies said Friday that center Zach Edey will undergo another operation on his injured left ankle, aiming to ease persistent discomfort and bone stress.

The 7-foot-3 center has not played since Dec. 7 because of a stress reaction in the ankle. Before the setback, the 23-year-old was averaging 13.6 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks over 11 games in his second NBA season.

Edey already had surgery on the same ankle in June, shortly after earning NBA All-Rookie first-team honors. During his rookie campaign, he also missed 12 games early in the season with a sprained left ankle.

The team expects Edey to make a full recovery and said a timetable for his return will be released after the procedure.

Memphis also announced that forward Brandon Clarke will be reevaluated in about two weeks. Clarke, 29, has been sidelined since Dec. 20 because of a strained right calf.
