MEMPHIS, Tenn., Oct. 6, 2025 — Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant is considered week-to-week after spraining his left ankle during Sunday’s practice, a team spokesperson said.
The injury clouds Morant’s availability for the start of the regular season and adds to Memphis’ growing list of sidelined starters:
Other key injuries
• Zach Edey: The starting center underwent surgery in June to correct laxity in his left ankle. He is not expected back until mid-to-late November.
• Jaren Jackson Jr.: The power forward had turf toe surgery in July. The team projected a four-to-six-week recovery before training camp, leaving his status for the Oct. 22 home opener against the New Orleans Pelicans in doubt.
Morant’s recent injury history
Morant, a two-time All-Star, has appeared in just 59 games over the past two seasons. He tore a labrum in January 2024, ending his season after only nine games, which followed a 25-game suspension to begin that year. Last season, he averaged 23.2 points and 7.3 assists while battling multiple injuries.
No timetable was given for Morant’s return beyond the week-to-week designation.
