Shooting guard Jalen Green will not be available when the Phoenix Suns open the regular season, head coach Jordan Ott told reporters Tuesday night.
Ott said Green aggravated a right hamstring strain earlier this month while the team was in China for two preseason games against the Brooklyn Nets. The 23-year-old will be reevaluated in 10 days, sidelining him for at least the Oct. 22 opener against the Sacramento Kings.
Green first suffered what the club termed a “low-grade hamstring strain” during training camp but still made the overseas trip. He did not appear in Tuesday’s preseason matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Phoenix acquired the high-scoring guard from the Houston Rockets this offseason as part of the trade that sent Kevin Durant to Houston. The Suns view Green as a key piece in their revamped backcourt.
