Center Rudy Gobert said he wants Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch to sit any player who is not giving full effort, declaring he is “fed up” with what he views as inconsistent intensity on the court.
“If you don’t play hard, you shouldn’t play at all,” Gobert told reporters on Feb. 8, 2026. The veteran big man emphasized that accountability has to start with playing time, arguing that the coaching staff should reward energy and commitment above all else.
Gobert did not mention specific teammates but said he believes the Timberwolves cannot reach their potential unless every player competes on every possession. “We’ve got enough talent,” he said. “What we need is effort every night.”
The three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year has been a vocal leader since arriving in Minnesota via trade in 2022. He reiterated that his comments were intended to push the team forward, not single anyone out.
