Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander equaled Wilt Chamberlain’s longstanding record on Monday night, reaching 20 points for the 126th game in a row during a 119-108 win over the Denver Nuggets.
The reigning MVP hit a three-pointer late in the third quarter at Paycom Center to push his total to 22 points, officially drawing level with Chamberlain’s mark that stood untouched since 1963. Gilgeous-Alexander’s next opportunity to claim the record outright comes Thursday, when Oklahoma City hosts the Boston Celtics.
“The name that he is up there with is Wilt,” Nuggets coach David Adelman said before tip-off. “If you love this game, you should love the history of it.”
Historic company
Chamberlain compiled his streak between 1961 and 1963, scoring at least 20 in every game of the 1961-62 season for the Philadelphia Warriors—a campaign highlighted by his 100-point outburst in 1962. The run ended on Jan. 20, 1963, when he logged only four minutes for the San Francisco Warriors against the St. Louis Hawks.

Gilgeous-Alexander has recorded five 50-plus-point performances during his current surge, topped by a career-best 55 against the Indiana Pacers earlier this season. He was last held under 20 on Oct. 30, 2024, when he scored 18 versus the San Antonio Spurs.
The guard posted 17 points in Monday’s first half. With seconds left in the second quarter and a chance to match the record then, he dished to teammate Isaiah Joe, who drained a buzzer-beating three for a 66-60 Thunder halftime lead.
Gilgeous-Alexander closed the night with 26 points, two rebounds and seven assists as Oklahoma City improved to 50-14.
