Giannis returns for Bucks’ Cup game vs. Knicks

NEW YORK — Giannis Antetokounmpo rejoined the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night for their NBA Cup contest against the New York Knicks after sitting out four games with a strained left groin.

The two-time MVP was injured on Nov. 17 during Milwaukee’s 118-106 defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Head coach Doc Rivers said the following day that the forward would likely miss about two weeks, and Antetokounmpo’s return came 11 days later.

Before the setback, the 30-year-old was averaging 31.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 6.8 assists. He had scored 14 points in 13 minutes against Cleveland prior to leaving that game.

Milwaukee dropped all five games this season in which Antetokounmpo did not appear, including Wednesday’s 106-103 loss at Miami, a trip the star nevertheless made with the team.

Antetokounmpo captured last season’s in-season tournament MVP honors when the Bucks defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder for the championship, one year after falling to the Indiana Pacers in the 2023 semifinals.
