DETROIT — NBA free agent Malik Beasley was ordered out of his downtown Detroit high-rise on Wednesday after his landlord won an eviction case over $7,355 in unpaid rent, according to Michigan’s 36th District Court records.

The landlord had filed two separate suits against Beasley this year, seeking a total of $21,505. The first complaint was dismissed in March, but the second led to an eviction order when the 28-year-old guard failed to respond, the filings show. No attorney is listed for Beasley in the housing matter.

Steve Haney, who represents Beasley in an ongoing federal gambling investigation, told ESPN he is not involved in the eviction case. “An investigation is not a charge,” Haney previously said, emphasizing Beasley’s presumption of innocence. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York is looking into gambling allegations tied to the 2023-24 season, when Beasley played for the Milwaukee Bucks. He has not been charged.

Beasley is the third NBA player linked to that probe in the past 18 months. Recent social-media posts suggest he has been traveling in Europe.

After a resurgent campaign with the Detroit Pistons, Beasley had been discussing a three-year, $42 million contract to stay with the team, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Those talks are now on hold. Over nine NBA seasons, Beasley has earned nearly $60 million.

The guard also faces a civil suit from his former marketing agency, Hazan Sports Management, which claims he struggled to repay a $650,000 advance earlier this year. The Detroit News reported in July that Beasley owes money to a celebrity barber, a dentist and a company specializing in bridge loans to professional athletes.
