Washington, D.C., Aug. 19, 2025 — Five-time NBA All-Star John Wall, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 draft, said Tuesday he is ending his playing career after 11 seasons.

Wall, 34, revealed his decision in a social media post, writing, “Today, I’m stepping off of the court, but not away from the game. Basketball will always be in my life, and new opportunities present themselves. I feel now is the time to walk confidently into my next chapter.”

The explosive point guard spent nine of his 11 seasons with the Washington Wizards, where he averaged 18.7 points and 8.9 assists across his career. He also had stints with the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers.

His most productive year came in 2016-17, when he posted 23.1 points and 10.7 assists per game and earned a spot on the All-NBA third team. Wall won the 2014 Slam Dunk Contest and secured a place on the NBA All-Defensive second team in 2015.

Persistent injuries limited Wall to fewer than half of his teams’ games in each of the past six seasons, including two full seasons on the sideline.
