The father of Boston Celtics standout Jaylen Brown was arrested Thursday in Las Vegas on an attempted-murder charge tied to a stabbing the previous night, according to police and court records.
Authorities said Quenton M. Brown, 57, was taken into custody early Thursday and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. During an initial court appearance that afternoon, a judge set bail at $300,000 and scheduled the next hearing for Tuesday.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials reported that the incident unfolded Wednesday night in a parking lot. Investigators allege Brown dinged another vehicle with his SUV door, sparking an argument. After the dispute escalated, Brown is accused of stabbing the other man several times once the victim turned away, the arrest report states.
The victim underwent surgery at a nearby hospital and is expected to recover, police said.
Brown’s attorney told the court his client acted in self-defense, asserting that Brown was attacked first.
Jaylen Brown, a four-time NBA All-Star and the 2024 Finals MVP, has played for Boston since being drafted in 2016.
