ESPN senior NBA writer Marc J. Spears openly criticized the league on Oct. 6, 2025, accusing officials of failing to generate excitement around highly touted prospect Cooper Flagg.
“What are you doing?” Spears asked, contending that the NBA has not taken adequate steps to showcase Flagg’s talent or market his potential impact on the sport.
Spears voiced his frustration during an ESPN segment, insisting that the league’s limited attention to Flagg contrasts sharply with the extensive promotion given to previous teenage standouts in years past.
The NBA has not publicly responded to Spears’s remarks.
