SALT LAKE CITY — Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin knocked down a 3-pointer for the 34th consecutive game on Friday night against the Utah Jazz, establishing a new NBA rookie record.
Demin secured the mark on the Nets’ opening basket at Delta Center. The 21-year-old finished the first quarter 3-for-5 from beyond the arc and scored 11 points.
The streak moves Demin past former record holders Rudy Fernandez (Portland, 2008-09) and Landry Shamet (Philadelphia, 2018-19), who each hit a 3-pointer in 33 straight games as rookies.
Selected eighth overall out of BYU in the 2025 draft, Demin entered the matchup with 98 made 3-pointers this season, second among first-year players behind Charlotte guard Kon Knueppel. Through his first 40 career contests, Demin’s total trails only Knueppel for most 3s in that span, while his shooting percentage from long range sits at 39.7%.
Extra practice has fueled the rapid improvement. “Shooting the ball,” Demin said before tipoff. “As simple as it is, just being in the gym and shooting the ball.”
The Moscow native shot just 27.3% from deep during his lone college season but credited BYU head coach Kevin Young for preparing him. “He’s an NBA coach, so he taught me … whatever I have to know to be able to play at the NBA level,” Demin said.
Demin is also closing in on the Nets’ single-season rookie record of 158 3-pointers, set by Kerry Kittles in 1996-97. This year, Demin has already rewritten several franchise rookie marks, including most 3s in a game (seven) and most games with at least five makes (six).
