MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was forced out of Sunday’s home opener against the Indiana Pacers after feeling tightness in his right hamstring just 3:07 into the first quarter.
The guard scored on a hard-fought fast-break layup, absorbed contact and looked in vain for a foul call. Indiana called timeout one second later, and Bones Hyland checked in for Edwards when play resumed. Edwards did not return, and Minnesota went on to win.
Head coach Chris Finch had no postgame update on the All-Star’s status.
Edwards, 24, had been listed as questionable for Wednesday’s season opener in Portland, where he logged 41 points in 39 minutes. The three-time All-Star has played in 426 of a possible 445 games, including postseason appearances, since entering the NBA.
The team has not yet announced when further evaluations will take place.
