Los Angeles — Nov. 26, 2025: Dallas Mavericks star guard Luka Doncic criticized the Los Angeles Lakers’ special NBA Cup court on Wednesday night, calling the brightly painted floor at Crypto.com Arena “dangerous” moments after his club secured a hard-fought road win.
Doncic said players on both teams were slipping throughout the game and added that he felt the surface put everyone at risk of injury. “It’s not safe,” he told reporters in the locker room. “We’re out there competing and we shouldn’t have to worry about the floor.”
Tensions boiled over with 8.3 seconds remaining when Doncic became entangled with a Lakers player near mid-court, triggering a brief shoving match that forced officials and teammates to step in quickly. Both players were assessed technical fouls before play resumed.
Despite the late confrontation, Doncic paced Dallas to the win, scoring and facilitating key baskets down the stretch. The result kept the Mavericks unbeaten in group play, while the Lakers slipped further behind in the West’s in-season tournament standings.
