SACRAMENTO — The Sacramento Kings are preparing for All-Star forward Domantas Sabonis to return to the lineup Friday night against the Washington Wizards, league sources told ESPN.
Sabonis, officially listed as questionable, has missed the past 27 games while recovering from a partially torn meniscus in his left knee. The 29-year-old chose rehabilitation over surgery and has spent roughly two months working his way back.
The Kings reach this point with an 11-30 record, near the bottom of the Western Conference. However, they have posted their best stretch of the season by winning three straight — against the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks — to begin a seven-game homestand.
Now in his fifth season with Sacramento, Sabonis has three years and $136.3 million remaining on his contract. With the Feb. 5 trade deadline approaching, multiple league sources said new general manager Scott Perry has signaled a willingness to discuss deals involving high-salary veterans.
