Flagg’s 49 Not Enough as Mavericks Fall to Hornets on Knueppel’s Career Night

Dallas rookie forward Cooper Flagg poured in 49 points on Friday night, but the Mavericks still slipped to a road defeat against the Charlotte Hornets after a career-best performance by former Duke teammate Kon Knueppel.
The Jan. 30 matchup at Spectrum Center featured a duel between the one-time Blue Devils, now on opposite NBA sides. Flagg’s 49-point outburst kept Dallas close until the closing minutes, yet Knueppel’s own milestone night pushed Charlotte over the line and handed the Mavericks the loss.
Flagg and Knueppel teamed up at Duke before turning professional. On Friday, their first NBA meeting ended in Knueppel’s favor, overshadowing Flagg’s scoring gem and sending the Hornets home with the victory.
