The LA Clippers announced Sunday that Kawhi Leonard will miss Monday night’s home matchup against the San Antonio Spurs because of a sprained left ankle.
Leonard was hurt late in Saturday’s 120-111 loss to the Sacramento Kings at Crypto.com Arena. The forward landed awkwardly while backpedaling and defending DeMar DeRozan, then limped to the bench with 9:27 remaining in the fourth quarter and did not return.
Before exiting, Leonard scored 31 points, extending his franchise record to 45 consecutive games with at least 20 points. The two-time NBA Finals MVP is averaging a career-best 28.3 points over 53 appearances this season. He can miss only two more contests and still reach the 65-game minimum required for end-of-season award eligibility under the league’s new rules.
San Antonio will also be shorthanded Monday; the Spurs have ruled out center Luke Kornet and rookie guard Dylan Harper.
