BOSTON — The Boston Celtics spoiled the Detroit Pistons’ bid for a franchise-record 14th straight victory, pulling out a 117-114 win on Wednesday night, Nov. 26, 2025, at TD Garden.
Jaylen Brown delivered 33 points and 10 rebounds, while Derrick White added 27 points, including 11 in the final 4½ minutes, to hand Detroit its first loss since Oct. 28. The defeat halted the Pistons’ winning streak at 13, matching the runs of the club’s 1989-90 and 2003-04 championship teams.
Detroit, which entered the night atop the Eastern Conference at 15-3 just two seasons after setting an NBA record with 28 consecutive defeats, leaned on Cade Cunningham’s 42-point performance to stay close. His last-second chance to even the game fell short after a dramatic sequence in the closing seconds.
With the Pistons trailing 115-112, Cunningham was fouled near midcourt as he rose for a potential tying three-pointer. Following a video review, officials ruled he was in the act of shooting. He made his first two free throws but missed the third, and Boston guard Payton Pritchard secured the rebound, was fouled, and converted two free throws with 2.4 seconds remaining for the final margin. The Celtics then intercepted Detroit’s inbound pass to seal the result.
Pritchard finished with 16 points as Boston won for the fifth time in six games. Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff said the game provided lessons despite the narrow loss. “We didn’t play our best basketball, and we still had a shot at it at the end,” he noted. “We’re still learning, and hopefully we’re not as good now as we will be in April.”
Detroit had tied the franchise win mark on Monday with a road victory over the Indiana Pacers.
