Boston Celtics All-Star forward Jayson Tatum said Wednesday night that he has not yet decided whether he will come back to the court this season as he works his way back from a torn Achilles tendon.
“I want to get it right the first time, so it’s just a lot to think about,” Tatum told ESPN. The injury occurred during the playoffs last May, and the 27-year-old noted that his rehabilitation has been going well, adding that he feels stronger each week.
Last week in Detroit, Tatum completed a full workout in front of reporters and has recently increased his training load, sparking speculation about a possible late-season return. Despite the progress, he remains cautious because of the severity of the injury.
The Celtics enter Thursday tied with the New York Knicks for the Eastern Conference’s second-best record at 29-18. Earlier on Wednesday, The Association reported that Tatum was reassessing his situation and weighing the option of sitting out the entire campaign.
