CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Tuesday that guard Max Strus has undergone surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his left foot and is expected to be out for roughly three to four months.

The 28-year-old suffered the fracture—located in the bone that connects the pinkie toe to the base of the foot—during recent offseason workouts. Team medical staff projects that Strus could resume basketball activities within the three- to four-month window.

With the Cavaliers scheduled to open the 2025-26 season on Oct. 22, the recovery timetable indicates Strus will miss at least the early portion of the campaign.

Strus joined Cleveland two summers ago on a four-year, $63 million sign-and-trade deal and has since been an important contributor to the club’s rise in the Eastern Conference.

He also began last season on the sideline after a right ankle sprain in offseason training cost him the first two months. Upon returning, he averaged 9.4 points and 3.2 assists while hitting 38.6% of his three-point attempts.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
