Denver Nuggets forward Cameron Johnson is expected to play Saturday against the Chicago Bulls, ending a six-week recovery from a right knee bone bruise and hyperextension, head coach David Adelman said Friday.
Johnson, sidelined since Dec. 23, returns as the club manages a string of health setbacks. One day earlier, Denver announced that forward Peyton Watson will miss a minimum of four weeks with a right hamstring strain.
The Nuggets have also dealt with injuries to Nikola Jokic, Christian Braun, Aaron Gordon, and Jonas Valanciunas this season. Jokic, who recently overcame a hyperextended knee, is slated to face Chicago despite being listed as questionable with a left ankle sprain. Forward Spencer Jones remains in concussion protocol and has been ruled out.
Acquired in an offseason deal that sent Michael Porter Jr. to the Brooklyn Nets, Johnson is averaging just under 12 points while converting 43% of his three-point attempts. Despite the injury list, Denver entered Saturday’s matchup tied with the Houston Rockets for the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference.
