CHICAGO — Imaging performed Tuesday confirmed that Chicago Bulls guard Anfernee Simons has reopened a fracture in his left wrist, head coach Billy Donovan told reporters before the home game against the Charlotte Hornets.

Simons exited Saturday’s 126-110 loss to the Detroit Pistons after the injury was initially described as a sprain and did not play in the second half. According to Donovan, the 26-year-old had previously broken the same wrist during Boston Celtics training camp and aggravated that “old injury” against Detroit.

“Once the pain subsides, they feel he’ll be able to play,” Donovan said, noting the earlier setback in Boston kept Simons out roughly one week to 10 days. The coach did not give a specific timetable for this latest recovery.

Since arriving in a deadline deal that sent center Nikola Vucevic to the Celtics, Simons has averaged 15.2 points in 28.4 minutes over six appearances (five starts) for Chicago. He posted 14.2 points in 24.5 minutes across 49 games with Boston earlier this season.

Drafted by Portland in the first round in 2018, Simons spent his first seven NBA seasons with the Trail Blazers before being traded to Boston last July as part of the Jrue Holiday move. The Bulls took the court Tuesday riding a season-worst nine-game losing streak.
