NEW YORK — New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson turned his right ankle on a drive to the basket with 1:52 remaining in Wednesday night’s 124-107 loss to the Orlando Magic.
Head coach Mike Brown confirmed the injury but declined to provide additional details. Brunson did not speak with reporters after the game; several media members saw him exit Madison Square Garden wearing a walking boot and using crutches.
The Knicks trailed 115-99 when Brunson was hurt. Before leaving the floor, he had scored 31 points and handed out six assists.
This is the same ankle Brunson sprained last season, an issue initially projected to sideline him for two weeks but one that ultimately cost him 15 games. He appeared to tweak the injury multiple times during the first round of the playoffs yet played through it as New York advanced to the Eastern Conference finals.
Wednesday’s defeat snapped the Knicks’ five-game winning streak and marked their first home loss after a 7-0 start at Madison Square Garden.
