LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves was ruled out at halftime of the team’s 119-96 Christmas Day loss to the Houston Rockets because of soreness in his left calf, the club announced.
Reaves left Crypto.com Arena without a brace on the injured leg and is set to undergo an MRI on Friday, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The third-year guard had recently missed three games with what the Lakers described as a mild strain in the same calf. He returned Tuesday against the Phoenix Suns, coming off the bench to score 17 points in 22 minutes.
Head coach JJ Redick kept Reaves on a minutes restriction against Houston, but the Arkansas native started the game and produced 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting in 15 first-half minutes. Marcus Smart opened the third quarter in Reaves’ place.
The Lakers, now 0-1 on their current homestand, have not provided a timeline for Reaves’ status beyond the scheduled imaging.
