Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards stunned Target Center on Thursday when he stepped away from the team’s bench during the middle of a game and headed to the locker room.
Television cameras captured the 22-year-old leaving without speaking to coaches or teammates. No immediate explanation was given for his sudden exit, and Edwards did not return to the bench before the final buzzer.
The Timberwolves declined to comment after the game, saying only that further information would be provided when available. Head coach Chris Finch also did not elaborate on the incident during his brief post-game remarks.
Edwards entered the night averaging 26.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists this season. His departure came as Minnesota battles for position near the top of the Western Conference standings.
