Washington Wizards star Anthony Davis said he remains “shocked” by the trade that sent him from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Luka Doncic, revealing his feelings during an appearance on “The Draymond Green Show” released Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
“I never saw that move coming,” the eight-time All-Star told host Draymond Green, adding that he learned of the deal while training in Los Angeles. “One minute I’m preparing for another run with the Lakers, the next I’m packing for Dallas.”
Davis also looked back on the 2020 NBA championship he won alongside LeBron James in Los Angeles, calling that season “the highlight of my career so far.” He credited the Lakers’ veteran core for helping him adapt quickly after his 2019 arrival from New Orleans.
The 33-year-old big man spent only one season in Dallas before a subsequent trade last summer sent him to Washington. Although the Wizards are rebuilding, Davis said he is embracing a leadership role. “I’m focused on helping these young guys develop and trying to get this franchise back to the playoffs,” he noted.
Asked whether he expects to finish his career in the nation’s capital, Davis stopped short of making any guarantees. “I’ve learned the NBA is unpredictable,” he said. “Right now, I’m locked in on doing my job here, but you never know what tomorrow brings.”
