PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain said Tuesday he expects to be fully cleared in time for training camp after a torn meniscus in December ended his rookie season.

“Right now, I’m on pace,” the 21-year-old said when asked about his recovery timeline.

McCain injured his left knee during a Dec. 13 game against the Indiana Pacers, halting a breakout year in which he averaged 15.3 points over 23 appearances and earned Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month honors for November. The Duke product, who started eight games and built a large following of nearly 5 million on TikTok, quickly became a fan favorite before the setback.

The 76ers have not issued an official timetable, but McCain’s progress keeps him in contention for minutes when Philadelphia opens the preseason at the NBA Abu Dhabi Games on Oct. 2 and Oct. 4. The regular season begins Oct. 22 in Boston.

Last year’s injury-plagued campaign saw McCain join All-Stars Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and Paul George on the sideline. Philadelphia finished 24-58, dropping 31 of its final 36 contests.

McCain said he still needs final medical clearance but hopes to rejoin full activities soon. “I still haven’t talked to them if I’m free for everything,” he noted, “but I’m definitely getting there.”
