PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers will be without All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey for their upcoming back-to-back after he sprained the fifth finger on his right hand, the team said Sunday.
The injury will keep Maxey out of Monday’s road game against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Tuesday’s home matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies. According to the club, additional tests are scheduled before a treatment plan is finalized.
Maxey was hurt with fewer than 30 seconds remaining in Saturday’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks. He collided with a teammate while reaching for a steal, immediately grabbed his right hand in pain, and did not return.
The Sixers entered Sunday just one defeat behind the sixth-place Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference standings. The team has already been without Paul George, who is serving a 25-game suspension for violating the NBA’s anti-drug program, and center Joel Embiid, who has missed the last four contests with ongoing knee problems.
Maxey is having a career year, averaging 29.0 points and 6.7 assists. He is four games short of the 65-game minimum required to qualify for postseason awards.
